Se acabó el 2012 y con él se van nuestras metas alcanzadas y sueños cumplidos. Algunos no lo sentirán tan positivo, sin embargo este 2013 llega cargado de mucha energía para que hagáis de él el mejor tiempo para lograr todas vuestras metas. Es por ello y porque sabemos lo mucho que habéis trabajado  este año, os queremos enseñar algunos de  los mejores artículos que os podrían interesar recibir estas navidades. Reincarnation is possible! The Selexyz Dominicanen Maastricht

En lugar de dejar el edificio morir, me seduce la idea de que un edificio abandonado se transforme en algo vivo, útil y funcional. Es un modo de “reencarnarse”, se le da otra oportunidad, es una especie de segunda vida. 

Además con los precios tan súmamente elevados que tienen los espacios en las ciudades, es una pecado encontrar este tipo de arquitecturas desperdiciadas,las cuales podrían ser usadas felizmente por jóvenes emprendedores como artistas , diseñadores de moda...etc.

Por supuesto el nuevo uso debe respetar siempre  la arquitectura existente. En este caso se trata de un edificio del siglo XIII; es una iglesia en Maastrich, Holanda, construida en 1924, en cuyo interior diáfano se ha insertado un nuevo uso: una tienda de libros , y ambos ambientes  interactúan y conviven  de modo amigable  añadiendo un interesante toque sagrado al ambiente literario de la Bookstore.

Considero que es muy interesante este tipo de diálogo entre formas contemporáneas y antiguas estructuras, y la firma de tiendas de libros SELEXYZ lo supo potenciar inteligentemente.

El proyecto es conocido como Selexyz Dominicanen Maastricht y fue diseñado por los arquitectos Merkx + Girod ; Es un ejemplo maravilloso de la unión y el respeto de las dos estéticas que comentaba arriba. Los arquitectos decidieron diseñar en modo vertical debido a una falta de espacio: la planta de la iglesia tenía tan sólo 750 m2 y era necesario una superficie útil de 1200 m2. Por este motivo colgaron estructuras  metálicas lineales, con una estética minimalista y  respetando una distancia con lo existente ; Al  recorrerlas, las visiones espaciales del interior  son increíbles y se pone en valor el edifico , su historia y su imponente altura. Visitar esta tienda una experiencia increíble, mucho más que comprar un libro...Es increíble la sensación que se tiene y las vistas desde allí arriba.

En el espacio también hay una cafetería. Como vestigio de su anterior vida se ha colocado una mesa alargada con forma de cruz en la zona de comer, que está  situada justo en el lugar  donde estaba el coro.

Estoy realmente interesada en este tipo de proyectos y espero descubrir muchos más ejemplos  como éste en el futuro. Enhorabuena!

Rather than letting the building ‘dying’ off,  I like the idea of having an abandoned building turned into something useful and functional. It is a way of reincarnation, it is like  giving a new life to the building.

Nowadays space is very expensive in cities, and it´s a pity finding  a lot of wasted places which, instead of being neglected by the society or awaiting demolition, could be used by society (for example using by  fashion designer entreprenours  or artists , etc.)

Of course  the new use must be respectful with the existing building; in this case  the building was built in 1294, and it is a 13th century Dominican church in Maastricht, Holland;  the cathedral features large open spaces boasting three-story bookshelves   and it adds religious experience into the reading atmosphere, while the space maintains the church’s structure and in the same time invites the modern innovative design of the bookstore.

I find very interesting the interaction of contemporary shapes with an old building of classical style: the branch of the popular Dutch bookstore Selexyz knew it.

The project is known as Selexyz Dominicanen Maastricht, and was designed by architecture firm Merkx + Girod ; it exemplifies a brilliant union between the opposing aesthetics.

The architects decided to design vertically because the church was only 750 square meters of floor space, but the shop should contained 1,200 square meters of shopping space.  They suspended linear elements in separation from the existing structure to expose and celebrate the history ,and  highlighting its height. As a result , walking around this adaptively reused interior is an experience, is more than buying a book…..  It is really amazing the feeling  and views from the top.

Within the space, there is also a cafe. As a nod to the bookstore's past-life, there is a long table shaped like a cross in the eating area, which is conveniently located where the choir formerly situated themselves.

I am really interested over this kind of projects and I hope to find more examples like this in the future.  Congratulations!

Swiss Tech Convention Center y las células Gräzel

Con el paso de los años se ha conseguido que la energía solar esté cada vez más presente en nuestros proyectos. Una de las últimas novedades en este campo es la utilización de la llamada Célula Grätzel que, con un rendimiento casi equivalente a las células solares tradicionales, tiene un costo muy bajo de fabricación (es más simple) y su rendimiento es mayor, ya que no necesitan de luz directa para producir energía, lo cual  hace que se puedan colocar en paramentos verticales.  Además, utiliza moléculas tintadas para producir la energía, que es lo que nos permite a los arquitectos emplearlas como herramienta de diseño.

 

Y eso es lo que han hecho en el estudio de arquitectura suizo, Richter-DahlRocha Associés en su proyecto para el Centre de Conférences Swisstech, donde han empleado las células Grätzel para el diseño de un muro solar de vídrio.

Éste consistirá en un paramento multicolor de 300 m2, una altura de 15,20 metros, y al menos 1500 células que producirán una energía equivalente a la necesaria para alimentar 3 casas.

El diseño viene de la mano de Catherin Bolle, artista lausannoise, que empleará la gama de los rojos, amarillos y naranjas, para hacer la composición.

Pero aún habrá que esperar un poco para que vea la luz, concretamente hasta finales de 2013. ¡¡Estamos impacientes!! ¡Buen final de semana a tod@s!

English Version

Over the years, the presence of solar energy is increasing  in our projects.  One of the latest developments in this field is the use of the Grätzel cell. It has a very low cost of manufacture (it's simple) than the traditional and it’s performance is higher, since not require direct light to produce energy, so we can use it on vertical elements. It also uses colored molecules to produce energy, which is what allows architects use them as a design tool.

And that is what they have done in the Swiss architectural firm, Richter Dahl Rocha-Associés in his project for the Centre de Conférence Swisstech where Grätzel cells have been used for the design of a solar glass wall.

It is 300 m2, a height of 15.20 meters, and at least 1500 cells that produce energy equivalent to that required to feed 3 houses.

The design comes from the hand of CatherinBolle, lausannoise artist who used the range of reds, yellows and oranges, to make the composition.

But still have to wait a bit to see the light,  the end of 2013.We cannot wait! Good week end everyone s!

Berlín y el Reichstag

Visitar esta sorprendente obra de Sir Norman Foster es sencillo si previamente has hecho reserva para ello, te has identificado antes de entrar y por supuesto, has pasado con éxito los escaneres  previos, necesarios dado que cubre la sala central del Bundestag o Parlamento Alemán, que es, aunque veladamente, visible desde la misma.

Por cierto, la entrada es completamente gratuita.

Consta de dos rampas continuas paralelas, que permiten que los flujos de subidas hasta la cima y posterior bajada no se crucen. 

Con un zoom de ángulo cerrado, en este caso un 150, las imágenes son abstractamente sugerentes.

Los reflejos quedan, cual caleidoscopio, repetidos en diferentes espejos, y el movimiento sin fin se reproduce sin parar en las paredes del cono invertido que recoge el agua de lluvia.

Lluvia que entra abiertamente, pues la clave está abierta al frecuente cielo encapotado que cubre la ciudad.

"Visiting this susprisingly master piece by Norman Foster is relatively easy if the visit has been booked beforehand, if you´ve identified yourself and if you have succesfully gone through the previous scanners, which are mandatory, as it covers the main lounge/hall/room of the Bundestag or German Parliament, which can be slightly seen.

By the way, the ticket is free.

It consists on two parallel ramps, they allow the flows of people going up and down the building and they avoid these running into each other.

With a closed angle, specifically a 150 one, the images are abstractly suggestive

The highlights/reflexes are, like a kaleidoscope, reflected in different mirrors, and the endless movement is reproduced nonstop on the walls of the inverted cone that collects the rain water

Rain that enters openly, as the key is open to the frequent overcast which covers the city

Have you ever seen the seats of the parliaments? Focus on the botton right or upper left of the previous picture.

The building is definitely an arquitectonic reference in Berlin, like the following pieces:

Un clásico: Mercado Público de Porto Alegre/ A classic: Porto Alegre Public Market

¡Hola Amigos de Arquitetitis!, en esta tercera entrega voy a escribir sobre un icono arquitectónico y patrimonio histórico cultural de la ciudad de Porto Alegre, su Mercado Público, inaugurada en 1869 para abastecer a la ciudad en proceso de crecimiento causada principalmente por la fuerte migración europea (principalmente italianos y alemanes).

Fue proyectada originalmente en estilo neoclásico por el Ing. Frederico Heydtmann en 1861 y durante las décadas posteriores a su inauguración ha pasado por diversas transformaciones, la más importante de todas fue durante la restauración y reconstrucción entre los años 1990 y 1997, año en que fueron re-inauguradas su nuevas instalaciones, ya que en el año 1979 fue demolida parcialmente por la institución  “Patrimonio Histórico de Porto Alegre” por causa de un incendio acaecido ese mismo año.

El proyecto de restauración de 1990 estuvo a cargo de los Arq. Doris Oliveira, Arq. Evaldo Schumaher, Arq. Octacílio Rosa Ribeiro, Arq. Teófilo Meditsch y la Arq. Vera Maria Becker los cuales se hicieron merecedores al “Premio de la 3º Bienal de Arquitectura” de 1997 en la categoría Patrimonio Histórico.

Gracias a esta intervención, el Mercado gano una estructura metálica central la cual permite un mayor sentido de amplitud y mejoró notablemente  la calidad espacial del proyecto original ya que prácticamente no existía circulación horizontal, permitiendo un mejor acceso a espacios cuadrangulares donde los restaurantes ubicados en el segundo nivel pueden colocar sus mesas para gusto de sus comensales que mientras disfrutan de la gastronomía brasileña,  admiran este espacio lleno de colores y tradición.

La fachada del Mercado Público de Porto Alegre mantiene su espíritu neoclásico casi impoluto por 143 años, donde el amarillo colonial se entre mezcla con los  restaurantes  y sus mesas en madera de teka  invadiendo la Plaza XV de Noviembre, aquí se respira el aire de una capital porteña para conforto del visitante, pero observamos su verdadero carácter ecléctico cuando andamos entre las “bancas” que son los puestos de ventas, todos llenos de productos multicolores, multicolor como el mismo Brasil  y  esta gran estructura metálica se fusiona y integra (sin degradar) con el espacio central del Mercado.

Esta intervención arquitectónica, para los más conservadores esta fuera de contexto en un edificio considerado histórico y tradicional y que se debió mantener el proyecto original del siglo XIX y para los más liberales una intervención adecuada ya que se integra perfectamente los espacios interiores con los exteriores y le da un aire de modernidad, sea como fuese, es imposible no hablar con cierto cariño de este símbolo de una ciudad con tanta historia como Porto Alegre y es un espacio al cual siempre me da gusto visitar.

Hello friends Arquitetitis!, In this third installment I will write about an architectural icon and historic cultural heritage of the city of Porto Alegre, the Public Market, which opened in 1869 to supply the city growth process mainly caused by the strong European migration (mainly Italian and German).

It was originally designed in neoclassical style by Eng. Frederico Heydtmann in 1861 and during the decades after its inauguration has gone through several changes, the most important of all was during the restoration and reconstruction between 1990 and 1997, which were re-opened its new facilities, as in 1979 was partially demolished by the institution "Heritage of Porto Alegre" because of a fire that occurred that year.

The 1990 restoration project was led by the architect Doris Oliveira, architect Evaldo Schumacher, Architect Octacílio Rosa Ribeiro, architect Theophilus Meditsch and architect  Vera Maria Becker which became deserving the "Prize of the 3rd Biennial Architecture "1997 in the Heritage category.

Thanks to this intervention, the market gained a metallic core which allows a greater sense of space and spatial quality improved markedly original project because there was virtually no horizontal circulation, allowing better access to open runs where the restaurants located in the second level can place their tables for diners who like their while enjoying Brazilian cuisine, admire this space full of color and tradition.

The facade of Porto Alegre Public Market neoclassical spirit remains untainted by almost 143 years, where the colonial yellow between  restaurants and teak tables invading Square XV of November, one can breathe the air of this coastal capital for visitor comfort, but his real eclectic look when we walk among the "seats" which are sales positions, all filled with multicolored products, multicolored as Brazil itself and this large metal structure merges and integrates (no degradation) with the central space of the market.

This architectural intervention, for the most conservative is out of context in a historic building that is traditional and should keep the original draft of the nineteenth century and the most liberal considered an appropriate intervention that integrates seamlessly with the interiors and exteriors gives an air of modernity, is that as it is impossible not to talk to certain fondness for this symbol of a city with as much history as Porto Alegre and a space which is always a pleasure to visit.

Lost in Rome

Más bien dejándonos perder, porque Roma es simplemente espectacular.

Cuna de tantas civilizaciones, la memoria se ha ido acumulando a base de estereotomías y tectónicas, reflejo del concepto espacial de cada época y autor. Nunca el material fue tan cómplice de un plano tan genial, donde a cada giro espera la sorpresa: una ruina o un templo, una piazza o una chiesa...

Siempre viva, los romanos, los viajeros, los turistas, los camareros, los actores, los coches pequeños... Cual destello de Fellini, subiendo por la Via Veneto, tomando un aperitivo en Monti o comiendo pescado en el Trastevere.

También tienen cabida los nuevos proyectos, como es el estudio Renzo Piano y su teatro, o Zaha Hadid architects y el Maxxi, siempre tomando el testigo de los grandes arquitectos italianos de mediados del XX, pongamos Nervi como ejemplo y la impresionante cúpula del Palazzetto dello Sport...

Aunque, hablemos de cúpula o maravilla, sin duda hay un punto que supera todo, nos deja sin aliento y nos desnuda con su impresionante contundencia: el PANTEON es... Me acuerdo que esta vez, según lo vislumbraba  escuché a una chica española "para que voy a entrar, si no hay nada"... Exacto, ese nada es TODO. Que pena que no pudiera descubrirlo y volar por su espacio mientras la luz se deja caer por un ojo gigante.

Por supuesto, gracias a ese perderse de la mano de nuestro buen amigo romano arquitecto Alessio: sin ti, a Roma le hubiese faltado mucho encanto... y travertino.

Or maybe better, letting us get lost, cause Rome is amazing.

Base of many civilizations, memories have been added with sternotomies and tectonics, spacial concepts here shown of each era and artist, Never the material was so guilty of such an awesome map, where each corner is open to our surprise: Ruins or temple, piazza or chiesa...

It´s always alive, romans, travelers, tourists, waiters, actors, small cars... Like Fellini dreams, going up Via Veneto, having a drink in Monti or eating fish in Trastevere.

There´s also place for new projects, like Renzo Piano office and the Theatre, or Zaha Hadid architects and Maxxi, always taking as a reference the good italian architects of mid-twentieth century, for example Nervi and the Palazzetto dello Sport dome...

Althoug, if we speak about domes or great things, there´s no doubt about a point which is over everything, stops our breathing and makes us feel ingravity: PANTEON is... I remember this time, I was just seeing the entrance, I listened a Spanish girl "why I am gonna get into, there´s nothing there"... Exact, that nothing is ALL. Such a pitty she didn´t discover it and fly through the space while the light falls down from the huge eye.

Of course thanks a lot to our good friend roman architect Alessio: without you, Rome would have lost lots of charm... and travertine.
